ABOUT The Department

St. Edmund’s College introduced the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) course in the year 2010 as a part of the Department of Computer Science supported by Department of Commerce, Mathematics, English and Environmental Science. In February 2020, a separate department for the BCA course was formed, the Department Of Computer Application headed by Ms. Sarmistha Deb.

Alongside normal classes, the department has been conducting numerous value added courses, both in online and offline mode, for the students of the college since 2020. The department has also successfully completed various Spoken Tutorial courses (an initiative of the MHRD and IIT Bombay) for students of various departments.

As an initiative to address, the emerging trends of information technology and communication, an in-house club called “The House of Geeks”, mainly run by the students of the department under the supervision of the department teachers, has been established for learning and sharing knowledge on technology amongst the students of the college.

On 6th March, 2021, the alumni committee was formed to strengthen the bond between alumni and the department, which includes developing an active network of alumni and to create positive relationship with the students, helping them in career guidance and information related to post graduate admissions.

Overall, the BCA Department at St. Edmund's College, Shillong, has taken significant strides since its establishment in imparting values and ethics through its dedicated faculty, well equipped laboratories, organizing seminars and a strong alumni network.
