About Us

Welcome to the Psychology Department at St. Edmund’s College, Shillong—a place where “Facta Non Verba” (Deeds Not Words) is more than just our motto; it’s our way of life. Guided by the core values of excellence, healthy competition, and high ideals, our department is rooted in the principles of our esteemed founder, Edmund Ignatius Rice, and is dedicated to providing equitable, quality education.

Our History

Proudly, we are the first Department of Psychology under North Eastern Hill University, established in 2024. Our journey began with a modest intake of 45 students and two dedicated faculty members. Since then, we have been committed to academic excellence and rigorous training. As we move forward, we aim to expand and further develop the department, fostering a thriving community of learners and scholars.

Academic Programs

We offer a comprehensive BA/BSc in Psychology that provides a deep understanding of psychological theories, research methodologies, and their practical applications. Our program is designed to prepare students for diverse career paths in the field of psychology, equipping them with both the theoretical foundations and practical skills necessary for success.

Faculty Excellence

Our dedicated team comprises two UGC-NET qualified faculty members with a combined teaching experience of over ten years in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. With one faculty member currently pursuing a PhD, our team is not only passionate about teaching but also deeply involved in research. Their student-centric, community-oriented, and research-focused approach ensures a supportive and enriching learning experience.

Student engagement goes beyond the classroom. Our department hosts a vibrant array of extracurricular activities, including the Psychology Club, Magazine Editorial Committee, and Media Club. These platforms offer students the chance to participate in workshops, organize programs, and celebrate their passion for psychology during our annual Psy-Fest fostering a dynamic and inclusive community.

Facilities & Resources

Our Psychology Lab is equipped with testing facilities that allow students to gain hands-on experience in psychological assessments and research.
