The Education Department at St. Edmund’s College, Shillong, was officially established in 2023. Our department is propelled by a mission to fulfil the educational requirements of our local community and create an environment that empowers students to flourish as exceptional individuals and future educators.
The Department is a vibrant hub of knowledge and growth, dedicated to shaping the future of education. With a remarkable inaugural batch of 67 enthusiastic students pursuing an Honours degree in education, we foster an environment that nurtures their passion and empowers them to become compassionate and skilled educators.
Under the guidance of a small yet passionate faculty, led by Ms. Genifa Kharbani and Ms. Georgina B Kharlukhi(H.O.D), we are committed to empowering students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in their teaching careers. Our objective is clear: to equip students with the essential tools to thrive as educators and make a positive impact on the lives of their future students.
Education is a vibrant and progressive discipline that comprises a wide range of theoretical frameworks, pedagogical traditions and paradigms. Education delves into the intricate dynamics of pedagogy and acquisition of knowledge incorporating social, cultural, psychological and philosophical elements.
The Education Department extends beyond academics, involving research and community initiatives. We foster partnerships with schools, organizations, and rural communities thereby propelling our commitment to academic growth, inclusion and outreach.
We believe that education is not confined to textbooks and lectures alone. We strive to provide students with a holistic learning experience that goes beyond the classroom. Through a wide range of activities, including departmental seminars, workshops, and practical experience, students gain a comprehensive understanding of educational theories, pedagogical approaches, and innovative teaching methods. We create an environment that nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication skills.
The Department offers Honours courses in Education, in alignment with the latest syllabus from the esteemed North Eastern Hills University.
Upon completion of their courses, our graduates effortlessly pursue further education in teacher training programs such as Bachelor of Education (B.ED) and Diploma in Elementary Education and Master's degree (MA). We aim to equip our students with the skills and knowledge, to excel in their chosen careers as future educators.
